Gateway Into College Level College Classes

College-level math and English courses prepare students for the academic rigor of higher education. These courses teach students critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for success in college and beyond.

They are important for many career paths, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Kentucky encourages students to enroll in gateway math and English because it will prepare them for their college journey.

If you look below, the statistics prove that students have not yet acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in college-level math and English courses. Gateway courses will help community college students become prepared for the rest of their college level courses.

Kentucky’s goal is to attain a goal of 60% of the population with a postsecondary credential or degree by 2030. Therefore, they want to ensure that all students have access to the gateway courses regardless of their race, income and age.
Overall, the Gateway course approach is one of many strategies that Kentucky has implemented to improve academic achievement and ensure that all students are prepared for college and careers.
