How Two Retirees Reignited Their Purpose Through Leadr and the TEDx Platform
For Mariah and Byron, lifting others is more than a metaphor—it’s been a way of life. Mariah, a retired registered nurse with a background in emergency, critical care, and flight nursing, spent decades helping patients regain their health. Byron, a retired commercial helicopter pilot, spent his career airlifting people to safety. Together, their journey has always centered around one thing: elevation.
“We both spent our lives lifting people up,” Byron shares. “It’s what we’ve always done. And we realized—it’s also what we love doing.”
That realization led to the creation of their business, Energy Is Mandate to Elevate LLC—a mission-driven platform designed to help people rediscover their value and believe they are more than enough.
Discovering a Platform That Resonates
When Mariah and Byron discovered Leadr.co, it felt like a perfect energetic match. “We believe we attract opportunities through our energy,” Mariah explains. “And the energy at Leadr was exactly what drew us in.”
Leadr.co offered not only alignment but also the structure they needed to amplify their message—and reach the TEDx stage.
“This is a tool that helps us keep doing what we do best,” Byron adds. “And it’s helped us gain clarity, structure, and support to do it powerfully.”
From Encouragement to Impact
It all started with short messages of encouragement on LinkedIn. During the pandemic, when the world was overwhelmed and uncertain, Mariah began sharing positive messages with strangers online.
“We were surprised by how many people gravitated to the message,” she says. “People needed support—and we needed to give it. The more we elevated others, the more it elevated us.”
That momentum evolved into something bigger: a vision for a TEDx talk that could bring hope, healing, and empowerment to a wider audience.
Coaches Who Guide With Heart and Honesty
The couple credits Leadr’s coaching team with providing both powerful insights and sincere support.
“Every coach we’ve worked with has been aligned in energy and mission. They truly get it,” Mariah says.
“They’re helpful, insightful—and objective,” Byron adds. “They don’t just say what you want to hear. They push you to dig deep, clarify your message, and share it with intention. That’s what’s brought us so much focus.”
Grace in the Face of Life’s Challenges
As life unfolded, Mariah faced a significant personal challenge during the program. But what could have been a setback turned into a moment of grace and growth.
“I had to pause for a few weeks to deal with something out of my control,” she shares. “When I returned, not only did I feel welcomed with open arms—I came back with an entirely different speech. And the team said, sincerely, ‘We’re so glad you’re back.’”
That kind of care and community reminded them of the classic show Cheers—“Where everybody knows your name,” Byron says with a smile. “That’s what it felt like. Real connection.”
Redefining What’s Possible—At Any Age
Today, Mariah and Byron are proof that you are never too old to evolve, serve, and lead.
“Five years ago, we never would have imagined doing a TEDx talk,” Mariah reflects. “But now, we know our voice matters. And Leadr gave us the framework to make it heard.”
Their advice? Don’t wait.
“Don’t be afraid to step on that TEDx stage. Leadr.co will get you there,” Byron says. “And the world needs your voice.”
A Message the World Needs
With Leadr’s guidance, Mariah and Byron are no longer just retired professionals—they are thought leaders, message-bearers, and examples of how purpose has no expiration date.
“Our journey proves that when you combine energy, intention, and the right platform,” Mariah says, “you can elevate not just yourself—but everyone around you.”
